The Play That Goes Wrong premiered at the Old Red Lion Theatre pub in London on 6 December 2012. After returning for a second season, this one-act version transferred to the Trafalgar Studios in 2013, before embarking on a UK Tour at the Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury, with the two-act show in January 2014. Performing to standing ovations at 17 venues across the UK, the tour ended in July 2014, prior to being given a West End Venue.
The production opened at the Duchess Theatre in the West End on 14 September 2014, where it remains and is currently booking as the longest running comedy in the West End. The original West End cast opened on Broadway in 2017 at the Lyceum Theatre with JJ Abrams making his debut as a theatrical producer and becoming the longest running play on Broadway at the time with 745 regular performances and 27 previews. It has been running in New York for over 8 years and is currently running Off-Broadway at New World Stages.
Now causing chaos in its eleventh year in London’s West End and having performed in over 50 countries across 6 continents, winning multiple awards around the world including WhatsOnStage and Olivier Awards for Best New Comedy, plus a Tony and Drama Desk Award for Best Scenic Design of a Play, The Play That Goes Wrong is a global phenomenon.
