Creative Task
* Exaggeration Pairs 20 Mins
Aims: Pair work, energy, performing, projecting, diction, physicalising an idea, storytelling, devising
- Put the group into pairs.
- Explain they are going to devise a scene which is VERY high in emotion.
- Each pair can choose one of the following statements –
“There’s no milk left!”
“The cheese has gone off!”
“I’ve forgotten the way!” - They must devise a scene together where one includes one of these statement and they both hugely overreact.
- We want to see them at level 6 and 7 the entire time!
- Perhaps they start uncontrollably sobbing, or laughing at the idea of there being no milk left.
- Perhaps they pretend to set the house on fire when the cheese goes off!
- Encourage them to completely let go and be creative, fun and melodramatic.
Troubleshooting: Students may automatically
turn to naturalism. This exercise always works best with an example by the teacher first. Once they see you let go and be melodramatic they’ll realise they have permission to be that silly too!
