Assistant Stage Manager (Book Cover)

Salary: £675.52 a week, based on 8 performances a week, plus Sunday Performance Payments

Benefits: Sunday payments, overtime, local discounts, membership to arts clubs

Contract: One Year Fixed term with the potential to extend

Show schedule: 7:30pm Tuesday – Saturday, 2:30pm Saturday, 3pm & 7pm Sunday

Holiday: As per the Equity agreement (28 days per year)

Personal Attributes: We are looking for applicants with previous Assistant Stage Management experience. The role requires someone who has exceptional people skills and can work in a highly pressured environment. A very strong knowledge of Health and Safety procedures would be desirable due to the physicality of the show. Last minute cast changes are normal on this production, so applicants must be able to adapt quickly. Applicants must be able to fit into an already established team.

Job Description

  • Assist with the running of rehearsals and performances.
  • Ensure stage and rehearsal environments are set-up and maintained as required with appropriate set, props, and other effects, as necessary.
  • Perform the ASM plots as directed by the Company Stage Manager, including some onstage cues.
  • Learn and keep up-to-date with ‘the book’ and call the show as book cover when required.
  • Supervise/teach New Deps as required.
  • Recognise where maintenance work needs to be carried out/replacements are required and bring this to the attention of the Company Stage Manager.
  • Maintenance of props, carrying out repairs in emergencies as required.
  • Ensure all stage management equipment and areas are kept in a tidy and secure manner.
  • Assist the Stage Management team with rehearsal requirements and requests.
  • Work collaboratively with all other departments, including the theatre technical team, to ensure the smooth running of the production.
  • Learn all plots/tracks within your department to provide absence cover for other members of your department as necessary.
  • Any other reasonable duty that would normally fall within the remit of a ASM based on industry norms and practice.

Person Specification

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written with excellent attention to detail.
  • A proactive and flexible attitude.
  • An understanding of comic timing.
  • Comfortable working with ladders and operation of pyro (training will be provided).
  • The ability to work well with actors and creative teams.
  • The ability to work under pressure and effectively prioritise.
  • Knowledge of SOLT and Equity union agreements.
  • Awareness of current Health & Safety legislation.
